Digital changeover in the ITV West Region to take place in March 2010
The majority of viewers in the ITV West region (formally HTV West) will in between 24th March 2010 to 7th April 2010 will loose their analogue signal providing terrestrial TV and have to buy digital equipment to continue viewing the 4 main channels. Despite a large number of people in Dorset being in the ITV Meridian which will not go digital until 2012 some people do pick up their television from ITV West region. The ITV Westcountry region which now shares the same news services and programming as ITV West changed to digital in 2009. Available options include of converting your home to digital are buying a digital conversion box which work with your existing TV even though you may need an aerial alteration or upgrade, subscribing to a pay service such as Sky TV or Virgin Media in cabled areas and Freesat subscription free satellite TV. Recording will also be affected and you will only be able to record one channel at a time unless your have a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) which to put is simply is recording machine without tapes. If you do not want a subscription to use the recording features choose a box such as Freesat+ or Freeview+. Be cautios of Sky+ as you need a Sky subscription to get the Sky+ recording features for free otherwise it is £10 a month!
