The North Dorset Community Resource Team works with several community based organisations, which can help you find out the right opportunity for you. We can also provide a chance to try volunteering on one of our specifically arranged community projects.

Gillingham in bloom volunteers to help grow and water plants
Girl Guides (Bourton & Gillingham District) Unit and Asst. Guiders (uniformed), training offered. Weekly meetings 1-2 hours Helpers (non uniformed) and occasional helpers welcomed. One a week or could help on the basis of once or twice a term. Cleaner required to clean the Guides hut. Time to be arranged to suit

Joseph Weld Shop volunteer is required to help in the shop bet must be fit. Sorting, ironing and labeling takes place upstairs. Help with serving in the shop also required therefore would appreciate a person who enjoys people and is willing to handle money
Multiple Sclerosis Fundraiser required to plan and action fund raising events for the Gillingham branch. Lots of willing support from group. Hours flexible
Neals Yard Remedies require people who are willing to spend 6-8 hours in the open harvesting or planting. This obviously has to be someone who enjoys gardening in all weathers and can cope with the hours. Days flexible
Scope Charity Shop helpers required. Flexible hours during opening times. Help with sorting, hanging and pricing required. 2 hours per week.
Scope, Mulberry Court volunteer Garden Centre Enablers required to assist an individual on a one-to-one basis to participate in the work of the garden centre. Assist them to make choices about the kind of work they want to do and guide them in the skills required to undertake the role. Anyone considering this role should have an interest in horticulture/gardening, possess a friendly and approachable manner, willing to listen and to maintain confidentiality at all times. Training available. Hours in line with support of individual.
Volunteer Employment Enabler required to assist and individual with learning and physical impairment to undertake employment. To find employment opportunities locally on a part-time basis, assist individual to make lifestyle choices, liaise with professionals involved in employment. Anyone considering this role should be friendly, willing to listen, lots of patience, able to maintain confidentiality at all times and willing to develop an understanding of individuals skills and abilities. Social Club for the Visually Impaired, helpers urgently required to assist visually impaired people on outings and meetings. Must be used to helping people with sight problems
Sue Ryder Shop helpers required to look after customers, use cash till, help sort, steam and hang donated items of clothes etc. Very flexible with hours to suit. There are steps in the shop so volunteers must be fairly fit
Victim Support Training provided to volunteers able to help victims of crime with emotional support. 4 hours per week (some work from home and visits)

STURMINSTER NEWTON Age concern Volunteers required to give advice and information to elderly
Age concern Befrienders required to visit elderly and infirm in local area. The role is varied and you will be matched to suit the need with a client. Hours to suit.
Age concern If you have experience of toenail clipping the Age concern would like to hear from. Hours are flexible.
Butterfly conservation Looking for volunteers to monitor butterflies and moths on the Butts estate. Also field trip available. Hours flexible.
Children's centre Group supporters required to help with parent and children to the centre. Three hours a week as required.

Dorset association for the disabled Volunteer driver to take members from homes to the Stalbridge Arms pub for lunch on a monthly basis. Looking after members into their seat, stowing wheelchairs, walking frames.
Exchange New community building now requires volunteers to help keep it active. Volunteers stewards required to meet and greet visitors and direct them to their appropriate venue. This role will also include stewarding exhibitions and any other event that needs supervision. With the growth of volunteers and a good rota these hours can be flexible.
Exchange Volunteers required to help manning the main reception desk. This will involve booking hall users in, selling tickets for future events and generally being available to help with enquiries.
Exchange Volunteers to help with the bar and catering. With a brand new bar and catering facilities those with the skills would find this a rewarding role. It is an important source of income for the exchange and therefore volunteers should be friendly people who can responsible and able to adhere to all licensing laws. Catering for events and possible the running of coffee mornings again will be an important part of income for the exchange. If you have these skills then the exchange wants to hear from you.
Lions club More members sought for this charitable organisation. Meetings take place twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Monday in the evening. The Lions raise funds to give to local charities.
Museum With the move of the museum into the the centre of the town more volunteers will be required to ensure an all day every day service to visitors. If you have people skills and enjoy being in a busy environment then this could be the role for you. Flexible hours.
Nordcat Volunteer drivers wanted with D1 on their license and willing to have a session to drive Nordcats minibuses. Hours flexible to suit.
Drivers urgently required to help 5/6 times a year for varied outings or meetings. Use of own car but can be registered with the Dorset blind association and claim mileage and insurance cover. Knowledge of Dorset essential.
Helpers urgently required to assist visually impaired people on outings and meetings. Must be used to helping people with sight problems. Stourview View Day Centre. Activities volunteers required to help people of all ages with physical disabilities. Positive attitude to disability required. Flexible hours to suit.
Piano player required to assist with activites for people with physical disabilites. Positive attitude to disability required. Flexible hours to suit.
Table tennis club. Are looking for new members to teach play table tennis and if you have the skills to teach. Hours to suit.

Volunteers with skills are sought to help run and develop the many projects which Sturquest take on during the course of the year. If you have a particular skill then why not ask if your skill can help us.
CHILD OKEFORD Brownies Driver required occasionally to transport Brownies on outings. Hours flexible.
Supervisor for 7-10 year olds girls. 6-7.30 on a Tuesday evening.
Age concern. Age concern runs a befriending scheme which encompasses the villages. Befriending can mean just dropping in for a chat once a week. To someone who is housebound could be a lifeline.

FONTMELL MAGNA Springhead trust. Volunteers keen on gardening and can spare some time on a Thursday working with the Mental health team are required to help plant and grow vegetables for the kitchen.
HANFORD Riding for the disabled at Hanford school Leaders, sidewalkers, instructors, and general helpers required by the Hanford group. Mainly children from Yewstock school. Friendly team of people and an opportunity to get to know the ponies. Held in the Hanford school riding stables and in the summer in the fields adjacent. Wednesday mornings.
OKEFORD FITZPAINE Youth and community service Voluntary youth workers required. Mainly evenings.
SHILLINGSTONE Shillingstone railway station project Volunteer helpers required to carry out a number of projects to include painting, gardening, cleaning rail stock.
BLANDFORD FORUM
EDP drug and alcohol service in Blandford and Gillingham, need volunteers to help with the drop in centres, also dutys around the office.Its greate fun lots to do so come in and ask for more infomation at 3a market place Blandford or ring 01258450862.
Age Concern an Advice and Information Co-Ordinator is required to help out in the office. Experience is not necessary but a willingness to learn, enjoy meeting people and have an organized way of working would be appreciated. Approximately 4 hours weekly. Escorts required to help the elderly with a shopping trip once a month. Must be fit and able to help from 9am-3.30 Treasurer required must be IT literate and numerate. Hours flexible. The Age Concern Shop require helpers. Role is flexible, people skills required and training will be given on the job, operating cash till etc. Shop is open from 9-5 minimum 4 hours required between opeing.
Adult Education, One year training course which will lead to a nationally recognized training certificate. After this a minimum of two hours tutoring per week is offered assisting a qualified teacher. These two hours are usually carried out during evenings.
Cavalcade of Costume This charming small museum of costume requires stewards to help welcome their visitors. Hours flexible. Volunteers are sought to help serve customers in a small but inviting tea room. Shop helpers required. Hours flexible.
Community Partnership/DT11 Forum Organisation set up to take Blandford forward. Volunteer to help with PR required. If you are used to liaising with local organizations and press you could be the one. Busy role but very reqarding.
Blandford Community Hospital, Weekend Ward Volunteers required. Role involves providing patients with drinks from a trolley, talking to patients and looking after flowers. Flexible to suit. Committee and Fundraising Volunteers wanted to help arrange fundraising activities such as the charity auction, fashion show etc. Flexible to suit. Drivers required to take referrals to appointments. Hours flexible. Befrienders required to help people with shopping, dog walking or just offering a little friendship, playing scrabble or making them a cup of coffee and having a chat. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Hospital shop volunteers required to sort donated goods, price and iron, help serve customers etc. Time commitment flexible. St John Library Service need two volunteers to provide books to ward patients one day a week for approximately 1 hour per week.
Brownies Supervisors required to assist in craft activities and games with 7-10 year old girls. Time commitment 6-7.30pm on one day during the week. Drivers required occasionally to transpot Brownies on outings. Hours flexible.
Childrens' Centre Mini-bus Driver required. Must have D1 or PCV licence. Flexible but one morning a week would be appreciated to bring families to the Centre from the villages. Play Assistants required. No experience necessary but must enjoy working with childred. This is a flexible role but one morning a week would be appreciated. Could involve art activities or reading and telling stories or singing rhymes. Meet and Greet volunteer required to help welcome new families to the Centre. Flexible by arrangement. Volunteers wanted to help clean and check toys as well as tidy and sort. Flexible by arrangement. Day Visits Organiser required to help plan and arrange visits for families during the year. Hours flexible. Volunteer interested in gardening required to help with planting, pruning and helping to grow plants and vegtables. Hours flexible.
Julia's House Dorset Children's Hospice Service probiding care within the family by offering respite and a much needed break from the pressures facing families looking after children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Volunteers wanted to help with fundraising. Supporter Groups operate all over North Dorset by running events and raising money for this charity. Shop helpers required to serve customers and sort donated items.
Blandford Museum Stewards required to help show visitors around the museum. Hours related to opening times and seasonal. Volunteer required to organize the Rota for volunteers. Hours flexible and seasonal.
The Mental Health Team Require gardeners to help their group on Friday afternoons to plant and grow vegetables. Produce is shared between the group.
Positive Approach Volunteer shop helpers required. New shop in Blandford set up to support Mental Health in Dorset. Hours flexible.
Riding for The Disabled Bryanston Group require voluntary helpers to assist with mentally handicapped adults who attend the riding stables. Thursday mornings during term time. Voluntary Comminttee Members and Fundraisiers required.

Individuals should check with their insurance company to ensure they are covered but no extra payment is normally required. CRB checks would be required and references. Volunteers required to work in the Shaftesbury office helping callers with enquiries 2 hours a week in the mornings.
Cancer Care Shop helpers required on a Saturday to look after customers. Hours according to shop opening. If you are interested in learning about retail and would be willing to train Cancer Care are interested in you. Hours can be flexible, willingness to learn is essential.
Credit Union is Coming to Shaftesbury If you are numerate and would like to be involved right at the beginning of this new project the Credit Union would be interested in you. Training available but may need to travel for this - Gillingham or Dorchester where other branches are already open. Once trained hours are flexible.
Children's Centre Drivers required for Thursdays in the monrning to pick up families from the villages. Family group supporters wanted for stay and play groups, help welcome families and make tea. Hours flexible. If you have home economic skills then the Children's Centre would love to invite you to help with cookery classes. We can offer you a new and very clean kitchen and lots of enthusiastic children! Hours to suit.
